Protect MI Kids bill package.

Tobacco use remains a costly and critical health issue in Michigan. Addictive and dangerous flavored products, including e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, continue to fuel the youth vaping crisis and exacerbate health inequities.

Smoking costs Michigan over $5 billion in excess health care costs and more than $11 billion in lost productivity each year. Over 16,000 adults in Michigan die each year from smoking. And 14 percent of Michigan high school students use e-cigarettes.

Michigan lags behind other states when it comes to protecting kids and communities from the dangers of nicotine and tobacco. Together we can reverse this trend.

A team of Senators introduced sweeping legislation to fortify Michigan tobacco prevention laws to better protect kids and communities from an industry that spends over $300 million in Michigan each year to retain their customers and addict the next generation of users.
