Urge Airport Authority to Stop Proposed Cigar Lounge
The Wayne County Airport Authority Is Seeking Proposals To Put Our Health At Risk
The Authority is planning to put a cigar bar/restaurant inside of the McNamera airport terminal. Doing so would expose millions of travelers to deadly secondhand smoke.
The Detroit Metro Airport is considering the addition of a cigar lounge—a move that puts public health at risk and undermines efforts to reduce tobacco use. The Detroit Metro Airport is the gateway to our great state for nearly 40 million travelers per year. As an advocate for healthy living and the right to breathe clean smoke free air, we strongly oppose this proposal.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death, contributing to heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Secondhand smoke exposure—even in designated smoking areas—poses serious health risks to travelers and airport employees. Airports should prioritize clean, smoke-free environments that protect everyone.
Allowing a cigar lounge at Detroit Metro Airport sends the wrong message about tobacco use and jeopardizes the progress we've made in reducing smoking rates. We need your voice to stop this harmful proposal and promote a healthier, smoke-free environment.
